We think it was four years ago? Maybe five? But we know we first met online through our shared love of photography, our equally adorable kids, and our insatiable appetite for photographic education. However, it wasn’t until a 2015 conference that we finally met in person and sealed the deal on a lifelong friendship. A million texts, countless FaceTime calls, and a few flights later and we decided it was time to take this photographic friendship to the next level. We wanted to share the satisfaction we find in creative pursuits, the lessons we have learned as businesswomen, and the joy of having your someone who gets it. The Photographer’s Retreat was born out of this idea that we wanted MORE of what we have in each other...friends who understand what it is to geek out over a lens...women who know what it is to juggle personal pursuits with family demands...a community where it is safe to try new things, ask questions, and grow together. We are friends, and this retreat is our extension of that friendship to YOU.
I remember the first picture I ever took. It was my fourth birthday and the only thing I asked for was a Polaroid One Step just like my Papa’s. I wasted no time in loading that beauty with a cartridge of film and snapping away, my heart beating with excitement as each little square frame emerged magically from the camera and developed right in front of me. The photos weren’t perfect; they were underexposed and blurry and oddly colored. But they were MINE and I think that deep down, in that moment, I knew I was meant to be a photographer.
That Polaroid is now joined by a few other cameras (and lenses…and lights…and accessories…I like gear, okay?!?!), but the joy, frustration, and sense of doing what I was made to do is still the same. Whether it be photographing a family, a bustling bakery, or my own kids as they play at my feet, my camera is my way of recording what matters and communicating my point of view to the world. I love this craft and I pinch myself daily that this is what I call my job.
When I am not taking pictures, you can find me guzzling loads of black coffee, folding laundry, and doing dishes (as this is what happens in a household with five kids and a husband who seem to require food and clothing at all times). My perfect day would include a good long run, a great book, board games, snuggling, and pizza. And pictures.

I was born a teacher through and through. I started watching my teachers when I was in Kindergarten, knowing that I would someday be a teacher too. I did just that, following my dream in so many ways. I started my career as an Elementary school teacher; kids and teaching were my thing and this suited me very well. And then I started having kids of my own and immediately became obsessed with owning a camera. I begged my husband to please get me a camera “that changed lenses”... whatever that was called! I spent the six years growing that passion into a thriving family & newborn photography business, while also documenting the lives of my own children. After 10 years in a classroom and 7 years with a camera in my hand I left the public school world in 2017 and traded it in for a full time photographer/work from home mom job. I did not leave my heart for teaching back in the classroom, it was immediately transferred it into teaching others photography. I knew when I left the classroom my heart and soul would not be happy if I wasn’t teaching; I just had to shift my focus to something new. Through mentoring other photographers, presenting at Click Away, speaking on behalf of Tamron at the WPPI Conference, and authoring a best selling breakout in the Click & Co. store called “Bringing Home the Story of the Beach, I have found a way to connect my heart for teaching and my passion for photography. I have found my sweet spot here and I am completely in love with the dream I have followed.
I live in Atlanta, GA with my husband and two kids. We spend almost our entire summer at the beach. My husband and I totally agree that it is the BEST way to relax and spend our vacation time and we will park ourselves in the sand from morning to night any chance we get. Growing-up in Michigan on Lake Huron, my love for the water is strong and it makes me so happy to create memories with my own family by the sea, instilling that same love of the water in my own kids. As a photographer, the beach is where I can best fuel my creativity and my favorite images have been created with ocean breezes in my hair and the sounds of waves crashing in the background. When I don’t have sand between my toes, you can find me eyeing the latest Anthropologie display, iced coffee in hand.
